Wātaka builds a single calendar event and writes it out as an iCalendar (.ics) file with correct time-zone information, so you can hand a precisely-zoned event to any calendar app — including Tuta, whose mobile client imports .ics only from its in-app calendar picker.

The point is the time zones. The generated file carries a real VTIMEZONE block with proper standard and daylight observances and daylight-saving repeat rules, computed from the device's own IANA zone data. An event at 1 pm Pacific/Auckland imports as 1 pm Auckland on a phone set to Perth — not shifted, not floating.

Wātaka is te reo Māori for a timetable or schedule.

Features

  • Title, location, description, an all-day toggle, and a start and end that each carry a date and a time; events can cross midnight or run over several days.
  • When the event is in a zone other than your home zone, a card shows the event in your time automatically; one tap compares against any other zone.
  • A time-zone picker with pinnable region clusters: Australia/Aotearoa, Europe, UK & Ireland, US & Canada, Asia, Pacific; using multi-city labels like Sydney / Melbourne / Canberra, plus a search across the full IANA list.
  • Video calls: an auto-named Jitsi room on a server you choose (readable names you can regenerate and copy), or a pasted link from any provider. The link is written below the description on export, so calendars without a conferencing field still show it.
  • An optional reminder (VALARM) and an optional repeat rule (RRULE), with defaults you set once in Settings.
  • Save the .ics through the system document picker, or share it — to a mail app, the event title becomes the subject.
  • An adaptive Material 3 interface with Material You dynamic colour and a dark theme.

Private by design

No internet access, no accounts, no ads, no trackers, no analytics, nothing running in the background and no Internet, storage, or location permissions at all.

Wātaka is free software under the GPLv3. This is an early beta.
